Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A newly inaugurated infrastructure project in Bihar has become the center of controversy after visible cracks emerged on the JP Ganga Path bridge in Patna, just 72 hours after its grand opening. The ₹3,831 crore project, launched as a major milestone in Bihar’s infrastructure journey, now stands as a troubling symbol of construction quality and oversight concerns.
The fourth phase of the JP Ganga Path was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on April 10. This 20.5-kilometer stretch was intended to significantly reduce the travel distance between Digha and Didarganj, easing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility. But within three days of ribbon-cutting, cracks appeared in parts of the structure, sparking outrage and alarm.
Reports suggest that the cracks were quickly patched in a hasty cover-up, rather than being properly investigated. This attempt to mask the damage has triggered serious concerns about the construction quality and the role of the Bihar Public Works Department in ensuring safety standards. Citizens and opposition leaders are questioning whether taxpayer money is being spent responsibly.
The project, dubbed the “Marine Drive of Patna,” had been widely celebrated as a showcase of modern engineering in the state. But the sudden structural issues have led many to question whether political deadlines were prioritized over engineering integrity.
This incident comes amid growing scrutiny over infrastructure projects across Bihar. Multiple bridge collapses and structural failures have raised eyebrows in recent years, often followed by promises of inquiry but little accountability. The latest development only adds fuel to the debate on whether state-run construction projects are being thoroughly vetted.
As visuals of the cracked surface began circulating online, public outrage grew louder. The incident has cast a shadow on Bihar’s infrastructure image, with experts demanding independent audits and stronger mechanisms for quality control and post-construction monitoring.
